ABOUT OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is a safe and gentle form of manual therapy based on the principle that when the body’s structure (e.g. joint alignment, muscle length, posture) is not optimal, the body functions poorly, leading to injuries, pain, fatigue and even chronic illness.
Rather than treating symptoms alone, your Osteopath will strive to find the root cause of your imbalance and pain to create a longer term change. This will often mean treating the whole of your body in an integrated way, not just looking at the "sore" part in isolation. Sometimes this "wider lens" means osteopathic intervention can succeed in alleviating stubborn pain, even when people have tried a lot of other approaches.
Osteopaths are regulated health professionals who train to Batchelor of Science degree level for four or five years. Your Osteopath will always work alongside any medical care you are receiving. She will take a full medical history at your first appointment and, where needed, can refer you back to your GP or consultant for further tests and advice.
Osteopathic treatment can be gently adapted to treat people of all ages and our patients range from babies and children to older people and pregnant women. Osteopathy is a hands on approach and your osteopath will use a range of techniques including physical manipulation, stretching and massage alongside other gentle techniques such as cranial osteopathy and myofascial release.
